Sessions Online School of Design is jointly accredited by the Distance Education and Training Council (DETC) and the Middle States Association Commission on Secondary Schools.
Sessions is the first school to be awarded this dual accreditation, a fact that reflects the school's ongoing commitment to the delivering the highest quality of arts and design education online. Sessions is also licensed by the New York State Board of Education.
Accreditation is a certification by a recognized body that a educational institution has voluntarily undergone a comprehensive study and peer examination and demonstrated that the institution meets the established standards in education. Accreditation assures the student that the institution operates on a sound financial basis, has an approved program of study, qualified instructors, adequate facilities and equipment, effective recruitment and admission policies, and advertises its courses truthfully.
DETC (Distance Education and Training Council)
Sessions Online School of Design is accredited by The Distance Education and Training Council (DETC). The Distance Education and Training Council is a nationally recognized educational association and accrediting agency located in Washington, D.C. Founded as the National Home Study Council in 1926, DETC's mission is to promote sound educational standards and ethical business practices within the correspondence field.
Recently DETC has emerged as a leader in global distance learning. DETC has accredited members in Canada, Ireland, Japan, South Africa, the United Kingdom, and the United States. Middle States Commission on Secondary Schools

Sessions Online School of Design is accredited by the Middle States Commission on Secondary Schools. To be accredited by the Middle States Commission on Secondary Schools, a school must meet the Middle States Association's standards for each major area of a school's work and activity.
These areas include the school's philosophy/mission/beliefs/objectives, governance and leadership, organizational design and staff, educational programs, learning media services and technology, student services, student life and activities, facilities, health and safety, finances, assessment of student learning, and planning.

NYSED (New York State Board of Education)
Sessions is licensed by the New York State Board of Education Bureau of Proprietary School Supervision as an online school of design.
The Bureau of Proprietary School Supervision (BPSS) oversees and monitors all non-degree granting proprietary schools in New York State. The Bureau is responsible for ensuring that the overall educational quality of the programs offered will provide students with the skills necessary for them to secure meaningful employment and for protecting students' financial interests while attending proprietary schools. The online design curriculum developed and taught at Sessions.edu fosters this type of environment.
BPSS licenses/registers all proprietary schools and credentials all proprietary school teachers to ensure that appropriate standards are met. The Bureau investigates student complaints and conducts comprehensive investigations of schools to assure compliance with Education Law and Commissioner's Regulations. BPSS works closely with the State-mandated Proprietary School Advisory Council in carrying out its mission.
